I know how to clean out my sponge (in tank water, etc.), just when is the correct time to do and then? When the period is starting to get less? Monthly? Quarterly?

Is this a sponge filter? If yes so I make clean mine with every water alter and so about one time a calendar week.
Wow, that's a lot. Mine are dual sponge filtes ten 2. So that would be 4 sponges a calendar week per tank. Not sure if that's doable in my case. Is there a reason you clean out every week?

It's just easier for me to clean the sponge filter out in old tank water at the aforementioned time I am cleaning my tank. Too that way I don't forget to do it and expect too long.

I clean mine every month. They don't get that dirty since its mainly for bio and does a weak job at mechanical.

I call up information technology depends on what you have in your tank and the size of the sponge. If it'south a big sponge with a depression bioload and then you won't need to be equally diligent as if you had the contrary situation.

I like to continue them gratuitous of debris and so bacteria take more infinite and more oxygen. That's probably science I made up in my head but I agree with the post above that it's easier to remember if I do it regularly and I already accept dirty water.

I clean my sponge filter every 2 weeks, they don't really go dirty from what I've seen or maybe a slight browning after a long time

Really? Mine turn the water black when I squeeze them in the bucket!

Aquaphobia: mine too! I rinse my sponge in dingy tank water well-nigh every week, sometimes every ii weeks. It's a "gentle" rinse, not thorough (I mean, I don't get the sponge really "clean"), but enough to get the heavy gunk out.
